K-State at TCU Notes
K-State volleyball's regular season enters its final week, beginning with the final road match on Wednesday, November 27 at TCU. First serve is set for 6:30 pm.
The Wildcats are in pursuit of an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament, and will certainly increase their chances of getting entrance into the 64-team field with victories. K-State enters its final week of play with a 17-10 record and No. 58 ranking in this week's RPI.
For a group of six Wildcat seniors, this is not only the final week of the regular season, but the last time the group will play in a regular season match in their careers. The six seniors have combined to play in more than 1,800 career sets and 570 matches. This week contains the final two matches for the seniors that have won more than 70 since 2010.
The senior class is led by Kaitlynn Pelger, who is looking to improve her standing on another all-time K-State list. With two more points, the two-time All-American Honorable Mention will move into second-place on the Wildcats' career points list. Pelger already ranks among K-State's top 10 in career kills, blocks, aces and sets played.
Pelger and the Wildcats will face a TCU team that is eighth in the Big 12 with a 3-11 record. The Horned Frogs are in the midst of a three-match losing streak, with their last win being on Nov. 9 vs. Baylor.
The Wildcats won the first meeting between the two programs back in early October. Led by 23 kills from Pelger and a career-high 18 kills from junior Taylor Johnson, the Wildcats came back from a 2-1 deficit to trump the Horned Frogs in five sets. Seniors Courtney Traxson (15) and Dakota Kaufman (10) also reached double-digits in kills while redshirt freshman Katie Brand had a double-double with 59 assists and 15 digs.
Wednesday's match can be heard on k-statesports.com or KMAN 1350 with Rob Voelker on the call. The match can also be streamed on k-statesports.com via TCU's webcast (subscription required). Live stats are available at k-statesports.com and Twitter updates will be provided by @kstate_gameday.
Notes: Tristan McCarty and Kaitlynn Pelger are tied for seventh on K-State's career sets played list. Both have played in 432 career sets since the start of the 2010 season ... Pelger is the only player in the Big 12 entering this week's action with 300 kills, 200 digs and 100 blocks ... Katie Brand became just the third freshman in K-State volleyball history to record 1,000 assists in a season after she had 28 at No. 1 Texas last Saturday. Brand is third in the Big 12 in assists per set in conference-only matches ... Taylor Johnson checks in at fourth-place in the Big 12 with 1.26 blocks per set this season ... Kersten Kober needs two more digs to become the first K-State freshman defensive specialist to record 200 digs in a season since Angie Lastra in 2004.
