K-State Powers Past Saint Louis, 3-0


 

 
 

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. Kansas State volleyball continued play on Saturday in the St. Clair Corporation/Clarion Hotel Missouri State Invitational at the Hammons Student Center. The Wildcats defeated Saint Louis 3-0 (30-22, 30-18, 30-21) earlier this afternoon.

 

The Wildcats (2-0) set down the Billikens (1-1) in game one behind senior outside hitter Agata Rezende and junior outside hitter Sandy Werner. The duo tallied five kills apiece and pushed the Wildcats to a .229 hitting percentage. K-State also recorded eight block assists in the opening frame and held Saint Louis to a -.032 hitting percentage.

 

In the second game, K-State received a strong effort from redshirt freshman outside hitter Megan Kroeker. Kroeker tallied three kills on four attempts. Werner was also strong in game two, registering six kills on 10 attempts. In the second stanza, the Wildcats hit .440 in 25 attempts and held the Billikens to a .029 hitting percentage on 34 attempts. K-State also tallied two blocks and eight block assists.

 

In the final game, K-State registered 17 kills on a .333 hitting percentage. Kroeker continued her solid effort, tallying four kills on nine attempts. The Wildcats recorded one block and six block assists.

 

Overall against Saint Louis, Werner led the Wildcats with 12 kills and Rezende tabulated 11. Kroeker registered eight and sophomore Rita Lilliom tallied six. Lilliom led in digs with eight and sophomore libero Angie Lastra registered six.  

 

For the match, K-State hit .323 with 45 overall kills and blocked 14 attacks. Saint Louis hit .057 and totaled 34 kills.

 

Sophomore Stacey Spiegelberg surpassed her assist season total from a year ago. The Overland Park, Kan., native tallied 40 assists and has 81 for the season. In 2004, Spiegelberg recorded 53 in 15 matches played.

 

Kansas State will conclude play in the St. Clair Corporation/Clarion Hotel Missouri State Invitational at 7 p.m. against host Missouri State.
