Wildcats Victorious in Season Opener


 

 
 

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. Kansas State volleyball opened its 2005 campaign with a 3-0 win over Arkansas-Little Rock (30-22, 30-27, 30-15) in the first game of the St. Clair Corporation/Clarion Hotel Missouri State Invitational on Friday.

In the first-ever meeting of the schools, the Wildcats (1-0, 0-0) opened with a 30-22 game one win. K-State registered a hitting percentage of .406 with 16 kills. Leading the way for Kansas State was senior outside hitter Agata Rezende with four kills. Sophomore setter Stacey Spiegelberg recorded 13 assists in the opening frame.

 

In game two, K-State was able to fend off the Trojans (0-1), 30-27. The Wildcats continued their torrid pace in hitting percentage, registering a .517 with 18 kills.

 

Spiegelberg finished with a career-high in four categories including 41 assists, five kills, three service aces and a hitting percentage of .500.. Rezende led the Wildcats with 15 kills and five blocks. Sophomore and 2004 Libero of the Year Angie Lastra tabulated 16 digs.

 

For the match Kansas State posted a .391 hitting percentage and 22 total blocks. Arkansas-Little Rock hit .149 for the contest and tallied only four blocks.   

 

Kansas State will continue play in the St. Clair Corpoation/Clarion Hotel Missouri State Invitational on Saturday. The Wildcats will face Saint Louis at 2:30 p.m. and host Missouri State at 7 p.m.
