K-State Opens Alumni and Purple/White Scrimmage to Public on Saturday


 

 
 

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State volleyball will open its final Purple and White scrimmage to the public on Saturday at Ahearn Field House. The scrimmage begins at 5:30 p.m. with the K-State alumni match, followed by the Purple and White scrimmage at 7 p.m. Admission is free for both matches.

 

Alumni committed to playing in this weekend’s scrimmage are: Rhonda Hughes Retig, Terri Akin, Pam Westmeyer, Julie Thomas, Susan Haas Brown, Jennifer Pollard, Renee Whitney Biby, Cari Jensen Smith, Jayne Christen, Laura Downey Wallace, Kathy Teahan Jantsch and Angie McIlvaine.

 

Head coach Suzie Fritz and her charges enter the 2005 season just outside the top-25, receiving 123 votes in the number 26 position. K-State has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of the past nine seasons, been ranked in the final Top 25 coaches’ poll in each of the last seven years, has finished the season with 20 or more wins for the past six seasons and has won 19 or more for 10 straight seasons. The 2003 team even captured the program’s first-ever conference title and won a school-record 30 matches.

 

K-State opens the 2005 campaign at the St. Clair Corporation/Clarion Hotels Missouri State Invitational in Springfield, Mo. The Wildcats will play Arkansas-Little Rock in the season-opener on Friday, Aug. 26, followed by Saint Louis and Missouri State on Saturday, Aug. 27.
