Sleichter Joins Wildcat Volleyball Team
May 21, 2001 Manhattan, Kan. - Head volleyball coach Jim McLaughlin announced Monday the addition of Jami Sleichter to the Kansas State volleyball team as a walk-on, beginning in the 2001 season. "Jami is a great addition to the team," said Wildcat coach Jim McLaughlin. "We feel that she will be able to add some depth and athleticism to our team and eventually develop into a strong component for future success." A 5-foot-7 outside hitter from Santa Fe Trail High School in Carbondale, Kan., Sleichter (pronounced SLEK-ter) was a two-time Class 4A All-State selection for the Wildcats the last two seasons en route to helping them to the state title as a junior in 1999. This past season, Santa Fe Trail lost in the semifinals of sub-state to Hayden to finish the season with a 20-14 overall record. She was named to the Class 4A All-State Tournament team the last two seasons and was a member of the Lawrence Journal-World All-Area team as a junior and senior. She was also a three-time All-Kaw Valley League selection for the Wildcats. A talented, all-around athlete, Sleichter also competed for the Santa Fe Trail basketball and softball teams the last four years. She was a Class 4A honorable mention All-State selection and Journal-World All-Area team member in basketball as a senior, while she garnered all-state accolades the past two seasons in softball. The addition of Sleichter follows the signing of Katie Stanzel of Marian High School in Omaha, Neb. (pronounced STAN-zell) and Gabby Guerre of Mayde Creek High School in Houston, Texas (rhymes with `air') during the fall signing period. |
