MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State fans looking forward to the excitement of Wildcat volleyball can get their season tickets now. Season tickets are on sale through the Kansas State Athletic Ticket Office and online at k-statesports.com for $50. A discount price of $40 is available for senior citizens as well as K-State faculty and staff. For fans with future Wildcats, a Family Pack is available at $100 that included two adult and two youth season tickets.
The Wildcats open their home schedule with a mid-week match against UMKC on September 1 at 7 p.m. before traveling for a tournament in Provo, Utah. Following the BYU Invitational, the Wildcats will be home for five straight matches including the annual Varney’s Kansas State Invitational and the opening of Big 12 Conference play.
This year’s Wildcat Invitational boasts the strongest field in some years with two NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago that finished the year ranked in the Top 25. Purdue and Kentucky will both bring their ranked programs to Ahearn Field House to take on the Wildcats along with the Portland Pilots over two days of action September 11 and 12. K-State will then open conference play at home against Oklahoma on September 16.
Other marquee matchups in conference play for the Wildcats include the Texas Longhorns on October 2. Texas reached the National Semifinals last season and spent much of the season in the top five of the AVCA Coaches Poll. Kansas comes to Ahearn on October 17 for the first edition of the Sunflower Showdown. Rival Nebraska visits K-State on November 25 as well.
The schedule includes three Wildcat Weekends with fans getting a double dose of K-State athletics as the football and volleyball teams are both home on the same day. The first is October 17 when the volleyball team takes on Kansas and football hosts Texas A&M. The following week the volleyball team hosts Baylor with football playing Colorado. November 14 is another action packed day with volleyball playing host to Iowa State, and the football team will play Missouri. Times for all volleyball matches on Wildcat Weekends are to be determined.
Volleyball fans can get into the action before the Wildcats play a home match with tickets to the Runza/AVCA Showcase in Omaha, Neb. The Wildcats and Nebraska Cornhuskers will each take on Big Ten Conference powers Michigan and Minnesota to open the season on August 28 and 29. Tickets go on sale to the general public on August 3 and can be purchased through the K-State Ticket Office or the Qwest Center at 402-341-1500.
Last season Minnesota finished ranked No. 14 in the nation after losing in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to Iowa State. Michigan lost in the Regional Semifinals to Nebraska and was ranked 17th in the final poll.
