MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State volleyball team continued their spring slate with a fourth-place finish at the Sports Performance Collegiate Tournament in Chicago, Ill., over the weekend. The Cats emerged unscathed in pool play and advanced to the Gold Bracket at the Great Lakes Center.

During the pool play, K-State earned wins over Kent State with a 25-23, 25-12 score and defeated North Carolina 27-25, 25-19.

In the Gold Bracket quarterfinals, the Wildcats captured the victory over Northwestern by a 25-14, 25-18 score. In the semi-finals, K-State fell to Georgia Tech, the eventual tournament champion, in sets of 12-25, 25-22, 12-15. The third-place match pitted the Wildcats against Southeastern Conference West Division Champion LSU. The Tigers came away with the bronze-medal victory by scores of 25-23, 20-25, 15-13. Statistically, senior-to-be Jenny Jantsch led the Wildcats in hitting over the day with a .440 percentage.

“We were able to play a lot of volleyball against teams with different styles of play,” associate head coach Jeff Grove said. “We made very few unforced errors on offense which is a sign of improvement. We need to continue to get better defensively to put more pressure on teams.”

The Wildcats will return to the court on May 3rd as K-State travels to Santa Clara, Calif., to face-off against Santa Clara, Stanford, San Francisco, Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara.
