Volleyball Opens Spring 8-2
MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State volleyball started its spring schedule with a 8-2 record on Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark. The Wildcats were led by a pair of redshirt freshmen, Tiffany Johnson and Ginta Gabruseva. The Wildcats were 3-0 against host Arkansas, 2-0 against the Arkansas alumni, 2-1 against Missouri State and 1-1 against Oral Roberts. Johnson led K-State with a .410 hitting percentage. The middle blocker from Odenton, Md., also was second in kills with 17. Gabruseva (Gab-ROO-Shave-uh) led the Wildcats with 18 kills and was second in hitting percentage at .340. Junior to-be Angie Lastra registered 5.3 digs per game with 48 for the weekend. The libero from Carolina, Puerto Rico has paced the Wildcats for the last two seasons in digs and will enter the fall season ranked ninth in K-State history with 983 career digs. The Wildcats will host a tournament on Saturday in the upper gym of Ahearn Field House. Teams visiting Manhattan are BYU, Arkansas, Wichita State, Creighton and Nebraska-Kearney. Matches are set to begin at 9:00 a.m., with K-State opening against BYU. |
