MANHATTAN, Kan. The KansasState volleyball team begins its spring tournament schedule this weekend as the Wildcats travel to the Chicagoland area to compete in the Sports Performance College Tournament. The tournament will be played at the Great LakesCenter in Aurora, Ill.
The tournament will feature 19 squads from 18 universities with eight of those teams reaching the NCAA Tournament last season. K-State will begin play in Bracket B of the Sports Performance College Tournament along with St. Louis, Michigan State, Dayton, WakeForest, Pittsburgh, Marquette and Loyola. Following bracket and pool play, the field will be reorganized into flights.
The Wildcats have two other tournaments on their spring schedule in preparation for the 2009 season this fall. On April 4, K-State will travel to Houston to play in the Texas Tornados College Tournament. The tournament is hosted by the Texas Tornados club team and boasts a strong field of teams.
A total of 23 teams from 22 universities will play at the Texas Tornados College Tournament. Among the field are fellow Big 12 Conference foes Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor and Oklahoma. Six teams participating played in the NCAA Tournament, and a tournament schedule has not been set.
K-State will host a spring tournament at ParkHillSouthHigh School in Kansas City, Mo., on April 18 as well. The tournament will feature the Wildcats, in-state rival Kansas, Creighton and NCAA Tournament teams St. Louis and ColoradoState. Tournament action will begin at 10:15 a.m.
