MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State head volleyball coach Suzie Fritz announced on Wednesday the addition of Abby Fay, Lauren Mathewson and Mollie Myers to the 2007 roster. All three players are enrolled at K-State and are taking part in the team’s spring workouts.
Fay is a 2006 All-State selection and a two-time All-Regional selection from Park Hill South High School in Riverside, Mo. The 5-7 setter finished the 2006 season as a finalist for the 2006 Evelyn Gates Award, given to the best volleyball player in the Kansas City metropolitan area. At the conclusion of her four-year career with the Panthers last fall, Fay was as the school’s all-time leader in assists with 1,798.
Mathewson was a teammate of Fay’s at Park Hill South and was a 2006 All-State second team selection. The 5-6 libero was a two-time All-Regional selection (2005-2006), four-time All-District selection (2003-2006) and a four-time All-Mid 6 selection (2003-2006).
Myers, a native of Grand Island, Neb., is a two-time All-Heartland Athletic Conference selection. The 5-7 setter helped the Islanders to a district and conference title during the 2005 season. Myers is also a gifted track athlete, earning state medalist honors in the triple jump and helped the 4x100-meter relay team set a school record.
