West Virginia vs. K-State

Post-Match Quotes

Head Coach Suzie Fritz

On overall thoughts about the match...

"I thought we played extremely well in all phases. We were true to the low error, which is who we want to be. We moved on both sides of the ball. Katie Brand was consistent and her decision making was as good as it has been all season. I thought they served aggressively, but we managed well in system situations. We did not have a lot of system breakdowns, so we got to play within our system. We played with great discipline, focus and tremendous energy."

On scouting report ...

"We got our hands on a lot of balls defensively, whether it hit the net or the back row. When they got past our block we did a good job of trying to keep balls in play, scrambling on defense and trying to get swings in transition. There are a lot of things that go in to being well prepared. Both coach [Jeff] Grove and coach [Jeff] Hulsmeyer did a good job preparing the team for what they would be seeing. I thought the team did a good job taking in that information and staying on task. I was probably more excited about our first swing offense because we were well over .300 in first-swing. It has been a little bit of an inconsistent thing for us, but anytime we hit over .300, we have a chance to win."

On the defense...

"I am not surprised with their defensive effort. I thought it was very tight and we were on task. We got our hands where they needed it be because West Virginia plays very fast. We had to adapt to their speed. We made things disruptive for them, and they had to adjust their game plan."

Chelsea Keating, junior outside hitter

On K-State's performance tonight...

"We just felt like everything was clicking; it was great.  Our passing was tremendous, and if it was not, our set location was great.  Everything was just running smoothly."

On winning two of the last three matches...

"You just want to be a team that plays well at the end of the season. We are just forgetting about what happened early on in the year.  We are trying to build ourselves to get to the NCAA tournament."

On playing aggressive......

"I just know being aggressive is what my team needs.  I need to kill more balls and not trying to tip anymore. I just need to keep up there and swing really hard."

Katie Brand, redshirt freshman setter

On the teams overall performance.....

"All the credit goes to our serving.  It kept West Virginia out of system.  We got a lot of free balls, tips and rolls over the net.  We did really good job of handling those, so I was able to just stand there and set."

On K-State's hitting tonight....

"It was great going out there and having a great team game.  I think across the board tonight everybody hit well."

On the team's scouting for West Virginia......

"I think we had a really good plan going into this game.  Jeff Grove is our defensive coach, and he put in a really nice system tonight that we stayed in and we were committed to.  I think as long as we trust our system and stand where our coaches tell us to stand we will play great."
