Three Wildcats Ranked In Top 10 Of ITA Fall Regional Rankings
Dec. 14, 2001 MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State tennis team had three Wildcats ranked in the Top 10 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Fall Regional rankings released Friday. Senior Alena Jecminkova, who was ranked third in last year's preseason regional rankings, is listed sixth entering the spring season. Ranked seventh is junior Petra Sedlmajerova, who was fifth in the preseason last year, and ninth is freshman Maria Rosenberg, who receives her first collegiate ranking. The Big 12 Conference had only Oklahoma State's Linda Faltynkova (3rd) and Missouri's Katia Sevcikova (8th) ranked ahead of the Wildcats in the top 10. All three of Kansas State's doubles teams were ranked in the Top 10. The Wildcats' No. 1 doubles team of Jecminkova and freshman Andrea Cooper are ranked fourth, No. 2 doubles of senior Kathy Chuda and Sedlmajerova are seventh and No. 3 doubles of sophomore Paulina Castellejos and Rosenberg are ninth. The Big 12 Conference had Oklahoma State (1st) and Missouri (2nd) ranked ahead of the Wildcats' No. 1 doubles team, and Oklahoma State's No. 2 team (5th) ahead of Chuda and Sedlmajerova. ITA preseason team rankings will be released Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002. Kansas State opens its 2002 season on Friday, Jan. 25 when it plays Arizona in Tucson, Ariz. at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. |
