Two Wildcats Ranked In ITA Fall Rankings

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State women's tennis team had two Wildcats, senior Alena Jecminkova and freshman Andrea Cooper ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (IT) Fall rankings released this week.

Jecminkova, who was ranked 56th in the preseason rankings, is listed 70th entering the spring season after posting a 4-5 record at No. 1 singles this fall. The Olomouc, Czech Republic native's, biggest win this past fall was a 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory over Georgia's Mariel Verban, who was ranked eighth in the preseason rankings and is now 23rd in the fall, at the Georgia Bulldog Fall Tournament on Sept. 28.

Jecminkova and Cooper also appear in the fall rankings as the Wildcats' No. 1 doubles team. The 'Cats are ranked 56th after becoming K-State's No. 1 doubles team this fall. The duo posted an 8-6 record this fall. Jecminkova and Cooper reached the semifinals of the ITA Regionals main draw before losing to eventual champions and 19th-ranked Missouri, 8-6.

ITA regional rankings will be released Friday, Dec. 14 and the preseason team rankings will be released Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002.
