Rosenberg Falls in Quarterfinals of Wilson/ITA Regional Championship


 

 
 

TULSA, Okla. -  Senior Maria Rosenberg’s run at the Wilson/ITA Region V Championships ended on Saturday in the quarterfinals. The number seven seeded Rosenberg advanced to the quarterfinals with a 7-6, 7-6 win over number nine seed Katka Sevcikova of Missouri late on Friday night.

Rosenberg, now alone in third with 65 career singles wins, fell to number one seeded Daniela Muscolino of Tulsa, 6-2, 6-0. Rosenberg’s season record is now 9-5 and she is just three wins shy of surpassing Alena Jecminkova for second in career singles wins. Rosenberg also teamed with freshman Tamar Kvaratskhelia to make a run at the finals of the doubles draw. The tandem, entered as the number 10 seed, defeated the number four seed of Kendra Strandemo and Jessica Vanderys of Colorado, 8-3. The goal of a finals appearance was derailed in the semifinals for the pair of Wildcats as they were defeated by number five seed Dolly Change and Lauren Jones of BYU, 8-5.

Another Wildcat in action at the Wilson/ITA Region V Championships on Saturday was junior Jessica Simosa. Simosa was placed in the consolation bracket of the tournament after falling in the first round. After a first round bye of the consolation bracket, Simosa defeated Michelle Heidbrink of New Mexico, 6-4, 6-2, late Friday night. The Valencia, Venezuela, native fell in the quarterfinals to Ewelina Skaza of Nebraska, 6-3 4-2 (ret.).

The Wildcats will complete their fall schedule on November 5-10 at the Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Arizona.
