Tennis Travels To Tulsa For ITA Regional Championships
Oct. 23, 2002 MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State tennis team continues its fall season this week when it travels to the Omni Hotels Regional Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on The University of Tulsa campus, Oct. 23-27. The qualifying rounds start today, Oct. 23 at 9 a.m. Junior Hayley McIver, sophomore Andrea Cooper and freshman Jessica Simosa all play at 10 a.m. in the 32-player qualifying round. McIver and Cooper enter the tournament with a 2-1 fall records and Simosa is 0-3. To advance to the main draw tomorrow, Oct. 24, the Wildcats must win two qualifying matches. In the 64-player main singles draw, senior Petra Sedlmajerova and sophomore Maria Rosenberg await opponents for their Thursday matches. Sedlmajerova has a 0-3 fall record, while Rosenberg is 2-1. The tournament also has a 48-team doubles draw. Sedlmajerova and Cooper will be K-State's No. 1 doubles team and McIver and Simosa will be No. 2. Sedlmajerova's and Cooper's fall doubles record is 3-1 and McIver's and Simosa's is 1-2. The singles finalists and doubles champions from this week's championship advance to the 2002 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, held Nov. 7-10 at the Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas. This event, which had been played in February, is the second of three national collegiate tennis championships during the 2001-2 season (for singles and doubles). The first, the Riviera Women's and ITA Men's All-American Championships, and the third are the year-end NCAA Championships.
