SALT LAKE CITY, Utah Sometimes you just have to forget about it and move on. After struggling through a loss in Wednesday’s pre-qualifying singles match, Maria Perevoschikova (pair-a-vosh-eh-cove-ah) focused her efforts on main draw doubles play with partner Jessica Simosa and won two matches to advance to the ITA Central Region round of 16. Katerina Kudlackova (kud-LATCH-cove-ah) and Tamar Kvaratskhelia(kah-vah-RATSK-heel-yah) also made the round of 16 as Wildcat players won 5 of 6 matches played on the first day of main draw play at the University of Utah’s Eccles Tennis Center.

A day after losing in a singles match for the first time this season, Perevoschikova and Simosa, who made their first appearance as double partners on Thursday, defeated Utah’s Elizabeth Ferris and Cinthia Saucedo, 8-5, in the opening round and then upset Oklahoma’s Gabby Baker and Chelsea Orr, 8-6.

Kudlackova and Kvaratskhelia received a first round bye and then defeated another Sooner squad, Christi Baxley and Irina Lykina, 8-6, to advance to the round of 16.

On the singles side, Kudlackova and Kvaratskhelia both opened main draw play with victories. Simosa was defeated by BYU’s Anastasia Surkova in the opening round but remains in contention in the consolation bracket.

Kudlackova defeated Nuria Lozano of Montana State in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Kvaratskhelia beat Utah State’s Jill Smith 6-2, 6-2. Kvaratskhelia will face Big 12 Conference foe Lauren Simmons, of Oklahoma State, at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Kudlackova will also meet a conference opponent as she takes on Colorado’s Veera Nurmi at 9:30 a.m.

Friday’s competition consists of two rounds of main draw and consolation singles play with one round of doubles play following.
