Kansas State Wraps Up Play at Hoosier Classic
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. On the final day of competition at the 2003 Hoosier Classic, Kansas State's Paulina Castillejos and Jessica Simosa came out winners in singles consolation play held Sunday at the IU Varsity Courts. Castillejos, a senior, defeated Murray State's Rachael Lask, 6-1, 6-2, for a third-place finish in the Flight C singles bracket, while Simosa, a sophomore, defeated Indiana's Linda Tran in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, in Flight A singles. Senior Hayley McIver was the only Wildcat to advance to the finals of her respective bracket, where she lost to Missouri's Yelena Olshanskaya, 6-3, 6-1, in Flight D. 'Most of the teams this weekend were strong and forced us to play,' Castillejos said. 'Overall we did well, but could have done better in the finals and posted better results.' The Wildcats will take a two-week break from fall tournament action, until traveling to the ITA Regionals hosted by the University of Utah on Oct. 22-26 in Salt Lake City.
