BLOOMINGTON, Ind. Against one of the nation's top doubles teams, the Kansas State women's tennis team still managed to place second and third in the top doubles flight of the 2003 Hoosier Classic held Saturday at the IU Varsity Courts.

Senior Paulina Castillejos and sophomore Jessica Simosa won a 9-8 (2) tiebreaker versus Eastern Michigan's Prapaiphan Kansuthi and Amalia Lincaru to advance to the finals. The preseason No. 28-ranked team of Karie Schlukebir and Linda Tran of host Indiana later proved too much for the Wildcat duo, capturing the doubles title with an 8-1 victory.

Junior Maria Rosenberg and senior Hayley McIver also fell to Schlukebir and Tran, 8-2, in the quarterfinals, but later defeated Eastern Michigan's Kansuthi and Lincaru, 8-3, for third place. Junior Judith Diaz and sophomore Aveen Alkhatib picked up their first doubles victory of the fall season with an 8-6 win over Murray State's Christina Hall and Tami McQueen in consolation play.

In singles action, McIver was the only Wildcat to advance out of the semifinals with a hard fought, two-set win over IU's Schlukebir, 7-6 (6), 6-4. She will meet Missouri's Yelena Olshanskaya tomorrow in the finals of Flight D singles. The Wildcats will wrap-up their remaining consolation matches tomorrow at 10 a.m.
