Tennis Team Wins Three Of Nine Matches At The Hoosier Classic Invitational
Oct. 4, 2002 BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Kansas State tennis team won three of its nine matches Friday at the Hoosier Classic Invitational at the IU Varsity Tennis Courts in Bloomington, Ind. In doubles, the Wildcats split four matches. Junior Hayley McIver and freshman Jessica Simosa won K-State's first match of the 2002-03 season when they beat Indiana's Sara Batty and Dominika Walterova, 8-6. Senior Petra Sedlmajerova and sophomore Andrea Cooper defeated Iowa's Cassie Haas and Deni Alexandrova, 8-2, for the Wildcats' second victory of the day. The 13th-ranked doubles team of Karie Schlukeber and Linda Tran (Indiana) beat Sedlmajerova and Cooper, 8-2, and Iowa's Steffi Hoch and Chelsea Glynn defeated Simosa and McIver. In singles, Cooper was the lone 'Cat to pick up a victory, beating Emily DeCamilla of Ohio State, 6-4, 7-6. Also, pair of Wildcats went three sets with their Buckeye opponents, but came up short. Sedlmajerova lost to No. 69 Erica Fisk, 6-1, 6-7(5), 1-0(7) and sophomore Maria Rosenberg to Lindsay Williams, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (8). In the other two singles matches with Ohio State, Simosa lost to Jackie Leskovar, 6-4, 6-3 and Lindsay Bryan beat McIver, 6-3, 6-3. Kansas State continues play in the Hoosier Classic Invitational on Saturday. |
