MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State’s Viviana Yrureta won her second singles match in two days and helped the Wildcats close out the final day of the Kansas State Invitational on Sunday.

Yrureta defeated Tulsa’s Kindsay Grimes in straight sets at the top of the lineup and was the only victory for Kansas State in five singles matches played.

“Viviana’s play was a definite plus for us,” K-State head coach Steve Bietau said. “It was good work for us. It’s a lot better than practice we had new faces across the net and it was such a good level of competition.”

Tamar Kvaratskhelia won two straight matches to open singles play at the Kansas State Invitational but was defeated by Tulsa’s Santie Delport in straight sets on Sunday to end the run.

The Wildcats won six singles matches and three doubles matches during the weekend in the team’s season-opening tournament.

“For the most part I’m happy with the effort we got. We’re at the beginning of the year so I didn’t expect to look great but we had a few spots where we looked good and got a lot of work done,” Bietau said. “At the moment depth is a real issue and we’ll approach that two ways one get the players we have now ready and two, try to get the others healthy.”

The Wildcats continue fall play when they travel to Indiana for the Hoosier Classic next weekend.
