Chumak Wins K-State Debut
MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State women's tennis opened its fall schedule on Friday afternoon at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex at Wichita State. Freshman Maryna Chumak was the only Wildcat to break into the win column on the first day of the WSU Fall Classic.
Chumak, a native of Odessa, Ukraine, tallied a 6-4, 6-4 win over Rone van Wyk of Arkansas State in her first career singles match as a Wildcat. Chumak advances to the quarterfinals of Flight A on Saturday. In Flight B, senior Natasha Vieira fought hard but came up on the short end of a 6-3, 8-6 decision to Leyla Simmons of Oklahoma. After a first round loss in doubles action, the K-State duo of junior Antea Huljev and sophomore Nina Sertic defeated Alexandra Cristello and Leyla Simmons, 8-3. Dating back to last season, the combination of Huljev and Sertic is now 3-7 together. K-State will continue action at the WSU Fall Classic on Saturday. WSU Fall Classic Singles |
