MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State women's tennis will kick-off the fall portion of the 2009-10 season on Friday, as the Wildcats travel to Wichita for the WSU Fall Classic. The weekend will include singles and doubles action at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex. Teams competing at this weekend's event are: Wichita State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Arkansas and Arkansas State.
K-State will travel with a limited lineup this weekend, as head coach Steve Bietau will take senior Natasha Vieira, junior Antea Huljev, sophomore Nina Sertic and freshman Maryna Chumak to the first event of the fall. The doubles pairings for the weekend are Huljev/Sertic and Vieira/Chumak.
Huljev led the Wildcats in singles wins last year with a 14-19 record. Huljev played all of K-State's matches in the spring in the number one position in the lineup. Vieira tallied 10 singles victories and a 12-10 record in doubles. Sertic joined the program in January and finished with an 8-12 mark in her debut campaign with the Wildcats. The combo of Huljev and Sertic finished with a 2-6 record together, including a 2-4 mark in Big 12 doubles matches.
K-State will be in action for the next two weekends, as K-State continues its fall season on Sept. 25-27 at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind. The Wildcats then travel to Fayetteville, Ark., on Oct. 2-4 to compete in the Arkansas Invitational. Ark. K-State concludes the fall slate on Oct. 21-25 at the ITA Central Regional in Norman, Okla.
