MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State women’s tennis will begin the fall portion of its 2010-11 campaign this weekend, as the Wildcats compete in the 35th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic at the Town Club in Milwaukee, Wis. The weekend will include singles and doubles action with teams representing Western Michigan, South Carolina and Marquette.
The Wildcats return six letterwinners from last season’s squad that tallied a 7-13 overall record and a 4-7 mark in the Big 12. The four conference victories were the most for the program since the 2006 season and the seven wins were the most since the 2008 campaign.
K-State is led by senior Antea Huljev (15-21 singles record in 2009-10), junior Petra Chuda (13-18 singles record in 2009-10) and sophomore Karla Bonacic (12-15 singles record in 2009-10). The Wildcats also will see its two freshmen, Petra Niedermayerova and Alina Piotrowski, make their K-State debuts during the weekend.
Following this weekend’s action in Milwaukee, K-State will travel to Bloomington, Ind., for the Hoosier Classic on Sept. 24-26. After the Hoosier Classic, the Wildcats will have a month to prepare for the ITA Regionals in Fayetteville, Ark., on Oct. 21-24.
