Kansas State Women's Tennis Announces Fall 2001 Schedule

MANHATTAN, Kan.- Kansas State women's tennis coach Steve Bietau announced today the Wildcats' 2001 Fall schedule.

K-State will play in five tournaments in five different states and against at least two opponents ranked in the final 2000 ITA poll.

The Wildcats open the season at the Georgia Bulldog Fall Invitational in Athens, Ga. on Sept. 28-30. They will face Notre Dame, Miami and the Bulldogs in the invitational. Notre Dame was ranked No. 10 in last year's final ITA poll, while Miami was ranked No. 37.

Kansas State will participate in the 2001 Riviera Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. on Oct. 11-14. The tournament draw features returning NCAA All-Americans and at least one player from each of the ITA regions. The remaining players come from the qualifying rounds.

K-State closes out October at the ITA Regionals in Tulsa, Okla. on Oct. 25-28. The regionals have a 64-player main draw and a 48-team doubles draw. Senior Alena Jecminkova reached the semifinals last season before losing to eventual champion Lenka Zacharova of Weber State, 7-6, 6-4. Junior Petra Sedlmajerova won two matches in the regionals.

K-State will return home to host the Wildcat Doubles Invitational on Nov. 3-4. Big 12 conference rivals Colorado, Oklahoma State and Missouri will participate in the invitational.

The Wildcats finish their Fall at the 2001 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Nov. 8-11 in Dallas, Texas.

The Wildcats return five of six starters and two of three complete doubles teams for the 2001-2002 season.
