For the second straight year, Kansas State's Petra Sedlmajerova was named to a Verizon Academic All-District VII At-Large Team, as announced by the Verizon Academic All-District District Coordinator. The senior is just the third Wildcat in the tennis program to be named an all-district selection and the first named to the first team.
After being honored on the second team last year, Sedlmajerova will advance to the national ballot and the Verizon Academic All-American At-Large Team will be announced June 12.
The 5-foot-7 right-hander maintains a 3.90 cumulative grade-point average in marketing/international business, while recording an overall record of 17-14 at No. 1 singles and 20-12 mark in doubles. Sedlmajerova was named first team All-Big 12 in singles and doubles and is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection. She helped the Wildcats reach the NCAA Round of 16 for the first time in school history and the 'Cats recorded the most wins in the program's history with 15.
Lena Piliptchak was the first Wildcat tennis player to be recognized by the College Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA) when she earned second team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in 1998.
Student-athletes who maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average for his/her career and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing are eligible for the award sponsored by Verizon.
To date, 63 Wildcats have earned the academic honor and Jacque (Struckhoff) Stedman is a two-time finalist for the Verizon Academic All-America Hall of Fame.
