Four Wildcats Honored By Big 12
May 7, 2002 MANHATTAN, Kan. - Alena Jecminkova, Petra Sedlmajerova, Maria Rosenberg and Andrea Cooper were honored recently as Big 12 Conference tennis position champions and runners-up. In doubles, Jecminkova and Cooper were crowned co-champions at No. 1 doubles with Oklahoma State's Linda Faltynkova and Katia Kolodynska. The K-State duo won 21 matches this season, including an 8-3 mark in league play. Jecminkova and Cooper were also named All-Big in doubles earlier in the season and Jecminkova was part of the champion No. 1 doubles team in 2001 with Eva Novotna. In singles, Jecminkova was named runner-up at No. 1 singles, while Sedlmajerova was the No. 3 runner-up and Rosenberg the No. 4 runner-up. Jecminkova posted 17 wins this season, including an 8-3 Big 12 mark. She was recently honored as the Big 12 Player of the Year and named to the All-Big 12 singles team. Sedlmajerova notched 18 wins this year, and also went 8-3 in league play. Rosenberg registered a team-high 19 victories in her rookie campaign, while she won seven Big 12 matches. Kansas State is currently ranked No. 49 in the latest Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, while Jecminkova is ranked No. 95 as an individual. Jecminkova will be making her third consecutive appearance in the NCAA singles tournament on May 21-26 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium at Stanford University in Stanford, Calif. 2002 Big 12 Conference Tennis Position Champions
