Texas Downs K-State in Quarterfinals
AUSTIN, Texas - For the second time in less than a week, Kansas State faced Texas in women’s tennis. Friday’s match took place in a different location, the Big 12 women’s tennis quarterfinals, but had a similar result, a Longhorn win, 4-0. The afternoon opened at Penick-Allison Tennis Center with doubles play and the 10th-seeded Wildcats’ (9-12 overall, 4-8 Big 12) pair of Maria Rosenberg and Tamar Kvaratskhelia losing to 31st-ranked Katie Ruckert and Kendra Strohm, 8-1. The tandem of Judith Diaz and Fernanda Da Valle also lost at the number two position to Petra Dizdar and Mia Marovic. The second-seeded Longhorns (18-5, 11-1) continued their momentum into singles play, winning at the number two, four and six positions to end the match. Kansas State still has the possibility of placing an individual or two into the NCAA Tournament. The trio of Kvaratskhelia, Rosenberg and Jessica Simosa are all possible entries into the tournament field. Kvaratskhelia has a school-record for singles wins in a season with a mark of 31-7. Rosenberg is K-State’s all-time leader in singles wins with a record of 79-55 and a career-high for wins in a season with 23. Simosa also set a career-high for wins with a mark of 21-17.
