Longhorns Spoil Senior Day For Wildcats


 

 
 

MANHATTAN - Seniors Judith Diaz and Maria Rosenberg were honored for their careers before Sunday’s match against 10th-ranked Texas at Washburn Tennis Facility. The Longhorns quickly ended the celebration by dropping the Wildcats 7-0.

Playing in their final home matches, Rosenberg lost to 58th-ranked Petra Dizdar, 6-0, 6-0, in the number one singles match and Diaz fell to Ristine Olson in the number six position, 6-0, 6-2. Rosenberg, a Manhattan, Kan., native set the school record for career singles wins with her 78th win against Colorado to open this four-match homestand.

In doubles play, Diaz and playing partner Fernanda Da Valle narrowly lost to Courtney Zauft and Kelly Baritot, 9-7. Diaz now has an overall doubles record of 16-10 and a 12-7 mark in dual match play this spring.

Kansas State is finishes the regular season at 8-11 overall and 3-8 in the Big 12 Conference. Texas improves to 17-5 overall and 10-1 in the Big 12.

The Wildcats will enter this week’s Big 12 Women’s Tennis Championship as the 10th-seed and will play 7th-seeded Oklahoma (14-11, 4-7 Big 12) on Thursday. Match time is still to be determined in Austin, Texas.
