Cats Place Two on Academic Team

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State women’s tennis placed two student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 first team in an announcement by the conference office on Friday afternoon. The recipients of the honor this season were senior Katerina Kudlackova and junior Natasha Vieira.

Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the men’s tennis academic all-league squad consisted of 17 first team members combined with six on the second team, while the women had 30 first team recipients and six student-athletes on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

Kudlackova is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 first team recipient, as she is a double major in psychology and Spanish. During her time in Manhattan, the product of Ceska Trebova, Czech Republic has registered a 48-83 record in singles play and a 60-78 mark in doubles action. Her 60 career doubles victories ranks seventh in school history.

Vieira is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first team honoree with a double major in management and marketing. The native of Carabobo, Venezuela is 29-60 in singles play during her three seasons in a K-State uniform. In doubles action, Vieira is 35-41 in her career.

This weekend, K-State will face two ranked opponents in the regular season finale. The Wildcats face No. 35 Texas A&M on Saturday at 12 p.m., and host No. 32 Texas on Sunday at 11 a.m. The matches are scheduled to be played outdoors at the Wamego Recreation Complex. If the weather is unfavorable, the matches will be moved indoors to the Cottonwood Racquet Club in Manhattan.
