Wildcats Shut Out By No. 16 Texas A&M, 7-0
COLLEGE STATION, Texas League-leading Texas A&M shut out the Kansas State women’s tennis team, 7-0, to extend its undefeated record to 9-0 in Big 12 Conference play Saturday afternoon at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. The No. 16-ranked Aggies (17-6) claimed the doubles point early by sweeping all three doubles matches. Kansas State’s Maria Rosenberg and Paulina Castillejos saw their six-match win streak fall as A&M’s Jessica Roland and Lauren Walker outlasted the Wildcat duo, 9-7, at the No. 1 position. Only their second Big 12 doubles loss of the season, Rosenberg and Castillejos still hold an impressive 8-2 dual record in league play. The top two singles matches of the day went into three-set duels as Rosenberg gave No. 21-ranked Roland a tough fight at the No. 1 spot with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 loss, while teammate Jessica Simosa was defeated by Helga Vieira, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 2 position for the Wildcats. The Aggies were the second consecutive and 10th overall top-75 nationally-ranked opponent that K-State has faced this season. The victory against the Wildcats gave A&M its best conference start in school history and a one-match lead over Texas in the current Big 12 standings. Both teams are vying for a conference regular season title. The Wildcats (5-13, 1-9) will close out the regular season at No. 12 Texas on Sunday, April 18 in Austin, Texas.
