MANHATTAN, Kan. Tamar Kvaratkhelia and Katerina Kudlackova won in singles but a pair of injuries and a loss in doubles left Kansas State over-matched in a 5-2 loss to Colorado on Saturday at Ahearn Field House.

In doubles, K-State (5-12, 3-5 Big 12) took the lead with an 8-2 win by Viviana Yrureta and Fernanda Da Valle at No. 1 over Colorado’s Camilla Belassi and Gleisy Torres Torres, but the Buffaloes responded with a win at No. 2 doubles to even it up.

Tereza Prochazkova and Kudlackova led 5-2 at No. 3 and were three games from giving the go-ahead point to Kansas State before Colorado rallied. Melisa Esposito and Martina Sedivec won seven of the final nine games and topped the K-State duo 9-7.

From there the match unraveled for the Wildcats.

Tereza Prochazkova withdrew from competition due to soreness in her knee and Da Valle was forced to retire in her match when she twisted her knee up two games at No. 2. The injuries left Kansas State facing a quick 3-0 deficit.

Kansas State mounted a small rally, winning points at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Kvaratskhelia won a first-set tie-break and took the second set, 6-2, over Colorado’s Veera Nurmi and Kudlackova won a second-set tie-break, 7-4, to defeat Franziska Jendrian.

Colorado got the match-clinching point when Monica Milewski defeated Yrureta at No. 1 singles, 7-6(7-0), 6-2. Colorado’s Gleisy Torres Torres won her match at No. 5 in three sets over Vieira to set the final score at 5-2.

With the loss, the Wildcats fell to 11-19 in the all-time series against Colorado and are 3-10 against the Buffaloes in Manhattan. The loss also snapped a season-high three match winning streak for Kansas State.

The Wildcats face Nebraska at 1 p.m. on Sunday, in a match likely to be played outdoors at the Washburn Tennis Facility at the Peters Recreation Complex. All matches are played outdoors unless the temperature is below 50 degrees or if the wind is above 20 mph.

K-State closes the regular season next weekend by receiving a visit from Big 12 south opponents Texas A&M and Texas.
