K-State against the Shockers: 16-16 (Wildcats have won 10 of last 11)
MANHATTAN - The Wildcats will travel to in-state, non-conference foe Wichita State for the final non-conference match of the season, Saturday, April 2 at 10 a.m. This will be the 33rd meeting between the programs, with the current record against the Shockers at 16-16 with K-State winning the last 10 of 11 matches. The Wildcats have a 6-6 mark in Wichita. The last time these teams tangled was Jan. 31, 2004, as the Wildcats defeated Wichita State 6-1 in Manhattan.
K-State (5-6 overall, 1-3 Big 12) ended a 12-match road losing streak, which dated back to April of 2003, against Texas-Arlington with a 5-2 win. Three of the four freshmen on the Wildcats’ roster picked up victories and K-State snared the doubles point for the first time in four matches.
Wichita State: At a Glance
The Shockers enter Saturday’s match with a 10-6 record and 2-0 in the Missouri Valley. Wichita State is led by first year head coach Chris Young, who oversees the entire Shocker tennis program which includes an associate head coach for the men’s and women’s programs and a graduate assistant.
Wichita State is paced by junior Ana Exeni in singles play with an 11-5 mark. Exeni is 10-4 in the number one position for the Shockers. Wichita State also has two other players in double figures, freshman Alejandra Ripoll and junior Genevieve Spink with 10-6 records.
Kansas State Against the Missouri Valley
The Wildcats have faced the Missouri Valley twice this season, Drake (Jan. 22) and Southwest Missouri State (Feb. 26). K-State defeated both with 7-0 victories. This will be the first time this season K-State will travel to a Missouri Valley foe and the first time since the 2000 season that the Wildcats will play three MVC members in the same season.
Overall, the Wildcats are 41-23 (.641) against current MVC members; Creighton (8-0), Drake (4-4), Illinois State (1-0), SMS (12-3) and Wichita State (16-16).
Freshmen Class Among Best in Big 12
The Wildcats’ freshmen class of Fernanda Da Valle, Olga Klimova, Tamar Kvaratskhelia and Tereza Prochazkova is among the winningest singles match freshmen classes in the Big 12. The quartet has a singles winning percentage of .672, which ranks them fourth behind Oklahoma (.703), Baylor (.700) and Nebraska (.696). Overall, the freshmen have a record of 43-21, led by Kvaratskhelia who has the most singles wins by a freshman in the Big 12 with a record of 24-4.

K-State has already equalled its win total from a season ago. Last season, the Wildcats registered their fifth win on April 4 against Iowa State.
