Wildcats to End Road Trip
MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State will conclude its season-high five-match road trip on Friday evening at No. 43 Nebraska beginning at 5 p.m. The Wildcats close the weekend on Sunday with its first home match since Feb. 27, as K-State hosts Iowa State at 1 p.m.
Sunday's match against the Cyclones is slated to be played outdoors at the Wamego Recreation Complex. If weather forces the match indoors, it will be played at Cottonwood Racquet Club in Manhattan at 1 p.m.
K-State (3-7, 0-2 Big 12) will look to shake off a five-match skid, which included last weekend's Big 12 matches at No. 32 Texas and at Texas A&M. Junior Antea Huljev and freshman Karla Bonacic each closed out the weekend with a singles victory. Huljev tallied her first career victory over a ranked opponent with a 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 63 Elze Potgieter of Texas A&M. Huljev leads the Wildcats this season with a 12-14 record and is 5-5 this spring in the number one position in the lineup.
Bonacic has won three of her last four singles matches, including her first as a number five seed in the lineup.
K-State has won the last two meetings against the Huskers, including a 5-2 win over then-No. 63 Nebraska on April 11, 2009 in Wamego, Kan. This was K-State's last win over a ranked opponent. The Huskers hold the edge in the series, 25-13.
The Wildcats have won 16 of the last 17 meetings against Iowa State with the last defeat coming last season on March 13. K-State owns a 24-10 edge in the series with the Cyclones.
Following this weekend's action, K-State will host Sunflower State rival Kansas at 2 p.m., on March 31. The match is slated to be played at the Wamego Recreation Complex.
