Tennis Team Travels To Baylor Saturday
March 12, 2003 MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State tennis team continues its seven-match road trip when it travels to Waco, Texas, to play No. 42 Baylor Saturday at noon at the Baylor Tennis Center. The 53rd-ranked Wildcats, who improved eight spots in the latest Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, are 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the league after upsetting No. 55 Oklahoma State, 5-2, March 9. Baylor enters Saturday's match with a 4-6 overall record and 3-0 Big 12 mark. The Lady Bears play No. 48 Pepperdine Thursday in Malibu, Calif., before hosting the 'Cats. Kansas State has a 2-2 road record this season, and have posted victories in two of its last three conference matches. The Lady Bears enter the match having lost two of their last three matches of the season, but all three of those matches were against teams ranked in the top 60 of the ITA rankings. Baylor holds a 6-3 series advantage over Kansas State. The Lady Bears have won two of the last three matches, including last year in Waco. The Wildcats lost 6-1 with their only victory coming at No. 2 singles. For the Wildcats, sophomore Maria Rosenberg sports a 7-1 spring singles record at No. 1 (1-0) and No. 2 (6-1) and has won six of her last seven matches. She is 12-6 overall and 2-1 in Big 12 play. Freshman Jessica Simosa has also won six of her last seven matches. She is 7-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12 at No. 3 singles. Senior Petra Sedlmajerova is 5-3 this spring and 1-2 in the conference at No. 1 singles. Her three losses have all been to ranked foes. The Lady Bears are led by Vida Mulec, who boasts an 11-11 overall record and 2-0 Big 12 mark at No. 1. She is No. 107th in the latest ITA rankings. Mulec teams with Anna Moncolova as Baylor's No. 1 doubles team that is 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the conference this spring. |
