MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State surrendered a 2-0 lead and Oklahoma State won four of the final five singles matches to top the Wildcats 4-3 at the Washburn Tennis Facility on Saturday.

The Wildcats (5-3, 1-2) opened the match with a 2-1 doubles point victory and took an early 1-0 lead. Tamar Kvaratskhelia and Maria Perevoschikova defeated Zana Masnic and Yawna Allen at No. 2 doubles, 8-4, and Jessica Simosa and Katerina Kudlackova followed with an 8-4 decision over Iryna Tkachenko and Marta Tsvika at No. 1.

Simosa extended the lead to 2-0 when she beat Masnic at No. 2 singles. Masnic won the first three games of the first set, but Simosa rallied with nine straight wins taking the first set 6-3, and building a 3-0 lead in the second. Simosa won the second set 6-2.

Kvaratskhelia defeated Tkachenko at No. 1 singles to give K-State a 3-1 edge but the Wildcats couldn’t muster a win in the final three matches.

Oklahoma State’s (5-5, 1-1) Lauren Simmons and Zuzanna Osinska broke Fernanda Da Valle and Olga Klimova’s four-match doubles winning streak with a tie-break win at No. 3 doubles.

The win drops Kansas State to 1-2 in Big 12 Conference play, including a 0-2 mark against Big 12 South opponents. K-State had won three consecutive matches prior to Saturday’s defeat.

The Wildcats host No. 47 Iowa in a match up of top 50 teams at noon on Sunday. Kansas State hosts the in-state rival Kansas Jayhawks at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. K-State home matches are played outdoors at the Washburn Tennis Facility unless weather forces them inside at Ahearn Field House.
