K-State Drops Close One on the Road
STILLWATER, Okla. - Kansas State women’s tennis started its eight-match road trip with a narrow 4-3 loss to the Cowgirls of Oklahoma State on Friday. The Wildcats (4-4, 1-1 Big 12) dropped the doubles point for the second straight match, losing 2-1 to Oklahoma State (4-6, 1-1). The pairing of senior Judith Diaz and junior Jessica Simosa was on the only victorious tandem. The pair defeated Jessica Collins and Lauren Simmons, 8-6. In singles action, freshman Tamar Kvaratskhelia continued her winning ways, defeating Zana Masnic, 6-2, 6-4. Kvaratskhelia has now won four straight matches and holds a 21-4 overall record and 6-2 in dual matches. Other winners for K-State were junior Jessica Simosa and freshman Tereza Prochazkova. Simosa, after starting the spring season 1-2, has won her last five matches; beating Jana Kubicikova, 6-1, 6-1. The win was the 50th career singles wins for the product of Valencia, Venezuela. Prochazkova has also been hot as of late, beating Jessica Collins, 2-6, 6-0, 7-6. The Brno, Czech Republic native has won four straight and is 5-3 in dual match play. Kansas State will continue its road trip this weekend, traveling to Norman, Okla. to face the 43rd-ranked Oklahoma. Match time is set for noon with live stats available at www.soonersports.com.
