K-State Win Streak Snapped By No. 68 Iowa
IOWA CITY, Iowa Riding a two-match win streak, the Kansas State women’s tennis team’s winning ways were snapped Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 loss to No. 68-ranked Iowa at the UI Recreation Building. The Wildcats, ranked No. 41 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings, lost the doubles point early as the Hawkeyes swept the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Similarly in singles play, Iowa won every match except at the No. 6 spot where sophomore Aveen Alkhatib won by default over Iowa’s Jennifer Hodgman. Senior Paulina Castillejos was the only Wildcat to take her No. 3 singles match into three-sets, falling to Iowa’s Hillary Mintz, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6). Junior Maria Rosenberg saw her three-match win streak end at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Iowa’s Meg Racette, ranked 21st in the ITA Midwest Region singles rankings. With the victory, the Hawkeyes improved to 5-0 on the season. K-State (2-2) will next host SMS on Sunday, Feb. 22 at the Cottonwood Racquet Club in Manhattan, Kan.
