Kansas State Tennis Team Hosts Wichita State In First Home Match Of The Season
Feb. 14, 2002 MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State tennis team opens the home portion of its spring schedule when it hosts in-state rival Wichita State on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Ahearn Field house. The No. 50 nationally-ranked Wildcats are 2-2 on the season after opening the year with four matches on the road. Kansas State trails Wichita State in the all-time series, 13-16, but the Wildcats have won the last six meetings with the Shockers, including a 6-1 match last season in Wichita. K-State will also be trying to improve its 2-7 home record versus Wichita State. Senior Kathy Chuda and junior Petra Sedlmajerova each sport 3-1 spring singles records at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively, while the No. 2 doubles team of Chuda and Sedlmajerova are 3-1. Senior Alena Jecminkova, who is ranked No. 70 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association is 1-3 this spring, but has played two ranked opponents. The Shockers enter the match with a 1-3 record after beating North Texas, 4-3, on Feb. 8. They are led by junior Amanda Cervantes, who boasts a 5-2 record at No. 1 and is on a three-match winning streak. |
