Rosenberg Named Co-Big 12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week
DALLAS For the first time of her career, Kansas State's Maria Rosenberg was named Co-Big 12 Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday. A junior from Manhattan, Kan. (Manhattan HS), Rosenberg has won three-straight singles matches playing at the No. 1 spot for the 33rd-ranked Wildcats (2-1). In the team's season opener versus No. 53-ranked Ole Miss on Jan. 30, Rosenberg used a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2, rally to defeat Chloe Carlotti, a two-time All-American transfer from Fresno State and preseason No. 5-ranked singles player in the nation. Rosenberg, ranked 12th regionally in singles by the ITA, also picked up straight-set victories at No. 1 singles over Wichita State's Ana Exeni (6-0, 6-0) on Jan. 31 and Utah's Sheri Esrock (6-3, 6-4) on Feb. 7. She was recently selected to the Preseason All-Big 12 Women's Singles Team. Rosenberg shares the inaugural weekly honor with Jessica Roland, who keyed Texas A&M’s upset of their highest-ranked opponent in school history last week. Roland, playing at No. 1 singles, led the Aggies past then-No. 5-ranked Southern California, 4-3, in the ITA Indoor Nationals at Madison, Wis., with a 6-0, 3-0 (inj.) win over USC's No. 24 Luana Magnani. 2004 BIG 12 CONFERENCE WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK |
