Kansas State Tennis Team Loses To Mississippi
Feb. 2, 2002 MANHATTAN, Kan. - No. 33-ranked Mississippi won four of six singles matches and the doubles point to hand the No. 50-ranked Kansas State tennis team a 5-2 loss today at the Gillom Sports Center in Oxford, Miss. Kansas State is 2-2 on the season, while Mississippi remain undefeated at 3-0. The Wildcats won at No. 3 and No. 6 singles as junior Petra Sedlmajerova beat Karem Harboe, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 and freshman Andrea Cooper defeated Audra Adams, 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (10-3) at No. 6. In the other singles, senior Alena Jecminkova lost to No. 25 Mira Radu, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1, senior Kathy Chuda fell to Alesya Ignatieva, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2, freshman Maria Rosenberg lost to Florencia Basile, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and sophomore Paulina Castillejos was beaten 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 by Sabrina Peppl. Kansas State's second doubles team of Chuda and Sedlmajerova beat Radu and Harboe, 8-4, but Ignatieva and Adams defeated Kansas State's No. 1 doubles team of Jecminkova and Cooper, 8-5, and Basile and Gould beat Rosenberg and Castillejos, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles. Kansas State has its first home dual match of the season when Wichita State travels to Manhattan on Sunday, Feb. 17 for a 2 p.m. match in Ahearn Field House.
