ATHENS, Ga. Kansas State won two singles matches and earned a doubles victory as the team competed on the second day of competition at the Georgia Invitational on Saturday.

Olga Klimova and Katerina Kudlackova both earned wins in singles consolation play at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex and Fernanda Da Valle and Viviana Yrureta collected their second doubles win of the tournament.

Klimova defeated Troy’s Nicole Shaw in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, and Kudlackova outlasted Mississippi State’s Renee Joseph, 7-5, 7-6(4), in a tie-break.

Da Valle and Yrureta won their match against Mississippi State’s Elna de Villiers and DeAndra Saddler and posted the only win in doubles play for the Wildcats on the second day.

“We played very well in one of the doubles, OK in another and poorly in the third doubles - mixed results there,” K-State head coach Steve Bietau said. “We’ve had to change some things around for a couple of reasons. Tomorrow we’re going to have our doubles lineup closer to where it should be. All of our doubles are against Georgia tomorrow which will be a good challenge that we’re looking forward to.”

Yrureta was bounced from the second round of the red draw on Saturday but pushed the No. 20 player in the nation, Georgia’s Darya Ivanov, 4-6, 3-6.

“Vivi had a good performance in the doubles and a very, very solid performance in her singles match against Georgia,” Bietau said. “We had a number of other matches that weren’t particularly clean more unforced errors than we wanted. We were able to clean some things up as the matches went on.”

The Wildcats conclude competition on Sunday with one more round of singles and doubles play. K-State will open the dual schedule on Saturday, Jan. 27, when they host the Drake Bulldogs in Ahearn Field House at noon.
