PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Kansas State’s Petra Niedermayerova was looking to reach the finals of the 2011 ITA/Riviera Women’s All-American Championships, but one of the most impressive individual efforts in the program’s history was ended on Saturday afternoon.

By advancing to the semifinals, Niedermayerova automatically qualified for a spot in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Nov. 3-6 in Flushing N.Y. Niedermayerova will be K-State’s first representative at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships since Karina Kuregian played in the 1995 event.

Niedermayerova, ranked No. 35 in the Campbell/ITA national singles rankings, was topped by Jacqueline Cako of Arizona State, 6-4, 7-5, on Saturday. Cako is ranked No. 11 in the nation and reached the semifinals by outdueling the No. 1 player in the nation, Jana Juricova of California, in three sets on Friday evening.

Niedermayerova finished the weekend with a 3-1 record. The product of Brno, Czech Republic, has posted a 5-4 record this fall and is now 29-14 (.674) in her K-State singles career. Included in her career singles record, is a mark of 24-9 (.727) in straight set matches. Niedermayerova is now 10-6 in her career against ranked opponents.

Of the five players from the Big 12 in the main draw of the ITA/Riviera Women’s All-American Championships, Niedermayerova was the only one to advance to at least the quarterfinals. The reigning Big 12 Player of the Year was K-State’s first representative at this prestigious event since Maria Rosenberg in the fall of 2004.

Niedermayerova will rejoin her K-State teammates in preparations for the conclusion of the fall schedule. The Wildcats will split its roster for the weekend of Oct. 20-23, as a portion will compete at the ITA Central Regional in Tulsa, Okla., and the rest will travel to Lawrence, Kan., for the KU Invitational.
