MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State women’s tennis officially opened Mike Goss Tennis Stadium with the first day of action at the K-State Fall Invitational on a wonderful sunny Friday on the K-State campus. The Wildcats’ young roster saw its first experience in K-State uniforms, securing six singles wins and one doubles victory.

Playing its first home fall event since 1997 and its first on-campus matches in five years, K-State responded in style with six singles wins over Kansas City, including five in straight sets, to begin the day.

Leading the way were wins by five of the six K-State freshmen. K-State freshman Iva Bago captured her first career win with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Gaby Pintos. Aside from her first career win, Bago’s victory marked the first K-State singles win at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.

Following Bago’s win, freshman Palma Juhasz tallied her first career win with a 6-0, 6-3 decision over the Kangaroos’ Raquel Argenal. Freshman Riley Nizzi carded her first career win with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Linda Ammar-Mouhoub. Freshman Livia Cirnu notched her first win with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Amelie Amsallem. The final freshman to card her first win was Maria Panaite, who needed three sets to drop Maddie Schulte, 6-7, 6-4, 7-5.

The lone returner for K-State to see action on Friday was junior Amina St. Hill. The native of Gothenburg, Sweden registered a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kansas City’s Dimitra Stavriankou. The win improved St. Hill’s career record to 21-28 and she has now won three of her last four matches.

In the afternoon doubles session, K-State registered one win over Omaha in front of a spirited crowd of K-State supporters. Picking up the win for the Wildcats was the duo of St. Hill and Juhasz with an 8-2 victory over Alex Tran and Jacqueline Baude.

Action will continue at Mike Goss Tennis Stadium for the K-State Fall Invitational on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m., with singles matches between Omaha and Kansas City. K-State will face Wichita State in singles at 12 p.m.
