Kansas State Tennis Team Finishes Regular Season With A Victory

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The No. 43 Kansas State tennis team snapped its two-match losing streak Saturday with a 6-1 victory over No. 65 Nebraska at the Wood Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb. The win improved the Wildcats' records to 11-8 overall and 6-5 in the Big 12, while the Cornhuskers dropped to 13-8 overall and 3-8 in the league. The victory secured a No. 6 seed for the 'Cats at the upcoming Big 12 Conference Tournament at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, on April 25-28. Kansas State swept the doubles matches to improve its record to 10-1 when winning the doubles point. Senior Alena Jecminkova and freshman Andrea Cooper won their third straight match and the sixth of their last seven with an 8-4 victory over Katarina Balan and Gitte Ostermann at No. 1 doubles. The KSU pair is now 12-7 in dual matches, 8-3 in the Big 12 and 20-13 overall. Junior Petra Sedlmajerova won her fifth straight match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Leslie Harvey at No. 3 singles. She sports records of 12-4 in dual, 8-3 in league and 18-10 overall. Jecminkova defeated Balan at No. 1 singles, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 for her fifth victory in six matches. She is now 12-7 this spring, 8-3 in the conference and 16-12 overall.
