Tennis Team Wins Fourth Straight Match

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The 57th-ranked Kansas State tennis team won its fourth straight dual match of the season and continued its best start since 1989 when it beat Utah, 7-0, on Saturday at the Cottonwood Racquet Club. The victory was the third consecutive over the Utes for the Wildcats and the teams second straight shutout this season. Kansas State won the doubles point for a fourth-straight time, winning at all three doubles spots. The duo of sophomore Andrea Cooper and freshman Jessica Simosa picked up their third win of the season with an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles over Rachel Alder and Hilary Doyle. Senior Petra Sedlmajerova and junior Paulina Castillejos improved to 4-0 on the season with an 8-3 win at No. 2 over Cassie Kasteler and Ellen Svensson. Junior Hayley McIver and sophomore Maria Rosenberg won their third match of the spring season, 8-3, over Maria Svensson and Allison Hansen. K-State swept the singles matches for the second straight match. The Wildcats were victorious for a fourth consecutive match at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Sedlmajerova beat Kasteler at No. 1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 and improved her singles record this year to 9-5. After dropping the first set, the senior won 11 out of the next 13 points for her sixth straight victory. Rosenberg picked up her ninth win of the year with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Ellen Svensson, and Simosa improved to 9-6 overall with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Hansen at No. 3 singles. Castillejos won her second consecutive dual match of the year with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Alder at No. 4. Cooper won her third dual match of the spring, beating Doyle at No. 5, 6-0, 6-2. K-State won its seventh point when McIver beat Maria Svensson, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. Kansas State returns to action Feb. 22 when it travels south to Oxford, Miss., to play No. 38 Mississippi at noon.
