Kansas State Tennis Team Wins Second Match Of The Weekend

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State tennis team completed a successful weekend of competition with a 7-0 win over No. 53-ranked San Diego today at the Randolph Park Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz. No. 52-ranked Wildcats are now 2-1 on the season, while San Diego drops to 0-3. Senior Kathy Chuda won her third singles match of the weekend with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Catherine Heppell at No. 2. Chuda is now 8-5 this season in singles and 2-1 at No. 2. "We made some progress this weekend and we looked a lot different today than when we arrived here," Kansas State head coach Steve Bietau said. "We cleaned up a lot of things and I think there was improved effort and concentration. Today was the closest to a complete match all weekend." In singles, senior Alena Jecminkova won her first dual match of the season with a 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory at No. 1 over Paola Arrangoiz. Junior Petra Sedlmajerova beat Annie Rapp, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and freshman Maria Rosenberg won her second match of the weekend with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Anne Seppi at No. 4. Sophomore Paulina Castillejos and freshman Andrea Cooper won at No. 5 and No. 6 by default. In doubles, Jecminkova and Cooper beat Arrangoiz and Heppell, 9-8 (2) at No. 1, Sedlmajerova and Chuda defeated Rapp and Seppi, 8-1 at No. 2 and Rosenberg and Castillejos won by default at No. 3. Kansas State continues its four-game road swing with a dual match at No. 33-ranked Mississippi on Saturday, Feb. 2 in Oxford, Miss.
