Kansas State Tennis Team Wins First Dual Match Of The Season

MANHATTAN, Kan. - No. 52-ranked Kansas State Wildcats won their first dual match of the season today when they beat No. 58-ranked New Mexico, 4-3, at the Randolph Park Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz. Today's win moves the Wildcats is 1-1 on the season, while New Mexico drops to 2-1. Senior Kathy Chuda won her second singles match of the weekend with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Tiffany Robertson at No. 2. Chuda is now 7-5 this season in singles and 1-1 at No. 2. Kansas State won four of the six singles matches for the win after New Mexico won the doubles point. Junior Petra Sedlmajerova beat Regula Comtesse, 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 at No. 3, freshman Maria Rosenberg defeated Courtney Choate, 6-4, 7-6 (5) at No. 4 and sophomore Paulina Castillejos beat Maria Ruiz-Fabrega, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5. Senior Alena Jecminkova lost at No. 1, 6-2, 6-3, to Tjasa Suvak. In her first dual action of the season, sophomore Hayley McIver fell to Michelle Heidbrink at No. 6, 7-6, 6-2, and freshman Andrea Cooper lost to Rachel Hatley at No. 7, 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4. In doubles, Jecminkova and Cooper beat Suvak and Hatley, 8-3, Sedlmajerova and Chuda lost to Choate and Heidbrink, 8-3 and Rosenberg and Castillejos fell to Comtesse and Ruiz-Fabrega, 9-7. Kansas State finishes its trip west when it plays No. 53 San Diego at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
