MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State women’s rowing team will travel to Iowa City, Iowa, to compete in the Head of the Iowa regatta on Sunday, Oct. 29.
The Wildcats have five entries in this weekend’s race including three boats in the Women’s Novice 8+ and two in the Women’s Open 8+ events. K-State will take on teams from Colorado, Creighton, Cincinnati, Drake, Kansas, Marquette, Northwestern, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota and host Iowa.
The 2.5 mile downstream race on the Iowa River starts in Crandic Park and finishes near the Iowa Memorial Union on the University of Iowa campus. Most spectators gather in City Park, which is just past the 1 mile mark in the course. The races will be in a head race format. Teams will start the race one after another, with a 15-second break between each entry. The team that completes the course in the best time wins.
Last season, the Wildcats top Novice 8+ boat claimed the title defeating Big Ten Conference powerhouses Minnesota and Wisconsin as well as regional rivals Iowa and Kansas. Kansas State’s second entry in the Women’s Novice 8+ event finished 16th. In the Women’s Open 8+ race, K-State placed ninth and 13th respectively.
The Head of the Iowa is an all-day event beginning at 8:30 a.m. and running until 3 p.m. K-State will race at 1:28 p.m. in the Novice 8+ event and at 2:25 p.m. in the Open 8+ event.
