MANHATTAN, Kan.- Kansas State will race in the Head of the Iowa Regatta, in Iowa City, Iowa, on Sunday, Oct. 26. The varsity eight boats will compete in K-State's final race of the regatta at 2:35 p.m. Prior to that, the varsity four is scheduled to race at 9:55 a.m. followed by novice fours at 10:50 a.m. and novice eights at 1:20 p.m.
Hale Tale
"The challenge on this course is that the opportunity for passing other crews is limited, so the coxswains have to really gauge where and when they are going to make their moves," said Kansas State head coach Jenny Hale.
It's a Pair Thing
The K-State varsity eight participants will break into pairs for an early Open 2- race at 8:45 a.m. Last year, the top pair were Talara Wait and Glenna Yokum finishing in fourth (17:55.72).
On Deck
On Nov. 2, the team will travel to Lawrence, Kan., to do battle with in-state rival Kansas in the Sunflower Showdown. The event, which runs in the morning, coincides with the K-State football game with Kansas that afternoon.
Collegiate Competition
Some of the teams that will be competing on Sunday include Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Kansas and Drake.
'Cats Hawkeye History
This is Kansas State's fifth appearance in six years at the University of Iowa event. Last year, the varsity eights finished third with a time of 14:28.51, the fours finished ninth, in 17:19.22, and the novice eights finished fifth with a time of 16:59.69.
Top Boat Finishes at the Iowa
Kansas State will look for an improved performance this time out, trying to capture their first race title since 1999.

Getting a Heads Up
The Head of the Iowa is a 2.5 mile race on the Iowa River. The Regatta is USRowing sanctioned, and includes events for men, women, lightweights, novice and masters rowers, as well as one event for mixed crews.
Charles in Charge
The first varsity fours finished 30th in the championship 4+ race at the Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass., while the eights captured a 24th place finish.
Just Like Old Times - Results
Five Kansas State rowing alumni participated in the women's club 4+ event at the Head of the Charles last Saturday, finishing in 40th of 53 boats.
