K-State Wins Novice Eight Race at Head of the Oklahoma
With an 18-second lead over in-state rival
Up against the U.S. National Team and top regional competition, K-State placed two boats in the top 10 of the Women’s Varsity 4+ race. Just missing the cut for the 500 meter sprints, the Wildcats’ top boat finished seventh behind
“They really rowed and handled the race well today,” Head Coach Patrick Sweeney said. “I was quite pleased to see the results of our training and the fitness level of our team. We picked up a win in the Novice Eight race and placed seventh and 10th in the Varsity Four. They (Novices) were able to handle the situation of racing for the first time really well, even after a long day of head racing.”
The Wildcats continue competition tomorrow with three boats vying for the Commodore’s Cup in the Women’s Varsity 8+ race beginning at 12:05 p.m. The top six finishers advance to the 500m sprints.
